Installing WHMCS using Installatron

Prior to installing WHMCS, it's important to ensure you have met the WHMCS System Requirements (external link opens in a new window).

We recommend:

  • installing WHMCS in its own cPanel account.
  • selecting the latest PHP version supported, and increasing PHP memory_limit to 512Mb and max_execution_time to 300.
  • ensuring you have added a LetsEncrypt SSL certificate to the domain you're going to install WHMCS on.

WHMCS requirements:

We have a separate guide on changing PHP versions, enabling extensions and changing options.

Installing WHMCS

  1. From within your cPanel, scroll down to the Web Applications section and click the view more link
  2. Type WHMCS into the search field and press enter - you will see details for WHMCS - click the + install this application button
  3. You'll then see the Install screen - we will work down through the sections.
Location - if you have multiple domains in your cPanel, or you'd like to choose the www/non-www variant of your domain you can drop-down the domain list and make your selection.
You also have the option to install WHMCS into a directory
  4. Version - this will default to the latest version - should you wish to install a previous version you can do so by selecting it from the drop-down list.
You'll need your license key in this section. View our separate article on obtaining your WHMCS license key. Enter (or copy and paste) your license key into the License Key box.
WHMCS now includes an in-built updater - and we'd recommend this over Installatron which can lag behind in terms of receiving updates - we have a separate guide on setting up the WHMCS Updater which you should follow after your installation completes.
WHMCS also includes various backup options, and we'd recommend setting up one of that post-install. These would be on top of any account backups that may be included with your hosting package.
  5. Settings - you'll find a pre-entered Administrator Username & Administrator Password - you can change these if you wish. The Show Password and Generate [password] buttons can be used to show the password - it's highly recommended that you note it down and/or store it in a secure password vault.
Enter an email address (for Installatron notifications) and a Website Title (you can change this during the WHMCS Getting Started walk-through)
  6. Advanced - unless you know what you're doing and want to either use an existing database or configure Installatron backups this section can be left as it is.
  7. Click +Install to start the installation
  8. Once the installation completes you'll see the following screen:
The three links highlighted take you to:
    - the client front-end of your WHMCS site.
    - your WHMCS admin area login - add this as a bookmark in your browser so you can go directly to your WHMCS admin login in future.
    - the external WHMCS support site.

There are several more important steps to run through before your WHMCS setup is ready to go - you should complete all of these further steps before moving on.

  1. Completing the WHMCS post-installation wizard
  2. Setting up the WHMCS CRON job
  3. Securing/Hardening your WHMCS installation
